The Giant Water LilyPosted by AG (London, United Kingdom) on 12 June 2006 in Plant & Nature. This is a detail of the giant Amazonian water lily, Victoria cruziana, grown from seed each year in a very hot glasshouse at Kew. The leaves can reach 2.5M / 8 feet in diameter. Flowering will be toward the end of June and, despite ( or because of ) an incredibly pungent aroma given off by the blooms to attract pollinating flies, crowds will gather for the brief event.
