Hogarth Window

Posted by AG (London, United Kingdom) on 22 July 2006 in Architecture.

Photographing the statue detail of his pug, Trump, recently, set me researching the man William Hogarth himself. This took me to the house in which he lived and worked from 1749 until his death in 1764.

The house is modest and very personal and filled with examples of his engravings. The sunlit tourist shots can be found on the web but I was more interested in the details such as this tiny window in his study : a window he would have opened and across which he might have closed that shutter against the light.

As I transfer this posting, there has recently been a fire in Hogath's House. The fire broke out during restoration and there is anough damage to keep the House closed for the rest of this year.
