Rain

Posted by AG (London, United Kingdom) on 22 August 2006 in Cityscape & Urban.

After one of the hottest Summer periods on UK record and ‘Drought Orders’ being imposed to conserve water supplies, we now have rain at last and our ill-maintained streets are immediately decorated with large areas of the precious stuff. This is great delight to small children. . . and to photographers.

Water Facts

My local water company currently bans the use of hosepipes due to shortages. Some areas already have more stringent restrictions and, in the extreme, it could mean shutting off household supplies and Londoners using standpipes set up in the street.

Amazingly, there is massive loss of treated water due to leaks in old mains pipes under London. This loss is equivalent to an average of 253 liters per household per day!
