Below the Streets

Posted by AG (London, United Kingdom) on 21 January 2008 in Documentary & Street.

This rather daunting pedestrian subway was opened in 1885 under Exhibition Road, London, giving sheltered access from the local station to the (then) newly-built museums. Until 1908, there was even a toll to use it.

While researching this, I noticed that it has been nominated as one of ’The World’s Worst Urban Places and Spaces’ . I think I’ve seen much worse that this!
