Richmond : Two, The Wardrobe

More detail from the location as yesterday.

These homes were formed from that part of Richmond Palace known as ‘The Wardrobe’ in which soft furnishings, costumes and clothes were stored and that name was carried over to the houses.

The word wardrobe itself derives from garderobe which was the palace latrine and, in Medieval times, it had become a good place to store clothes due to the stench being a deterrent to moths !

Location : Richmond, Surrey, England
