I see structures like this and wonder if the form followed function or function followed form. Did a designer say they wanted the triumphalism of an arch or an engineer say the eco- enviro- factors demanded a shape only an arch could provide? Most likely, an accountant designed it on a spreadsheet against a benchmark of $xx per unit volume.

Whichever, Whatever, it is there and a credit to Whoever.
