More from the protest in Trafalgar Square, at the use of ‘stop and search’ powers against photographers in London.

I need to say this scene was an enactment and not a real confrontation !

I’ve added a glimpse of my most recent 'citation' under Section 44(2) which states I was seen with "articles associated with terrorism - seen taking pictures of stock exchange". The 'article' was a D300.

I hadn't realised that you had actually been stopped; Articles associated with terrorism...? absolutely ridiculous, that would mean every tourist, every family outing, press photographer, school photographer, even the police themselves all have said articles ! Obviously they get their instructions from the Home Office, aka The Ministry for Lazy Useless politicians.

I think the Helmet cam might become a reality once they see this...!!

@Curly: Yes, sad times, indeed. Speaking with guys I know on the Force, they have been 'targetted' to stop a given number of us because the government believe that is a measure of good policing . . figures.

I want one of those helmets! Do you get fined if they stop you? Here we are supposed to be prohibited from taking pictures of or in the subway, bridges, etc. I haven't been stopped yet...

@Christine Walsh: hee hee on the helmet ! But, no, no immediate fine but some folks have been strip-searched in the street, they say . . I think I might prefer the fine !

Sure doesn't make me want to come back to visit—although I really do want to. I was stopped taking photos in Victoria Station in May'08 but the officer just looked at my photos on the camera LCD and left me alone. I think I'm going to feel very nervous and self-concious about taking photos next time I'm in the UK. Has it really gotten that bad that photographers are frequently confronted?
